Continuing health and safety concerns surrounding COVID-19 have led the Water Quality Association (WQA) to convert its 2020 Mid-Year Leadership Conference to a virtual experience. Planning now for an exclusively online MYLC will allow more people than ever to participate in this annual industry engagement event in mid September.
“We are disappointed that we can’t gather in Lake Tahoe as we had hoped, but even now, several months in advance, we can see that travel restrictions and necessary safety measures would have significantly impacted our attendees’ experience,” said WQA President DJ Shannahan. “Instead, we’re already in the planning process to make this a dynamic, engaging online event.”
MYLC will feature remarks from industry leaders and guest speakers, updates on industry issues, committee and section meetings, fundraising events for the Water Quality Research Foundation, and some creative networking opportunities. Specific details, including exact event dates, still are being determined. Members should look for updates at the event website, wqa.org/mylc.
WQA turned MYLC virtual in 2018 when Hurricane Florence threatened the event location. More recently, many parts of 2020 Convention & Exposition were offered online after the coronavirus pandemic prevented a live event in Orlando. In those cases, however, events had to be converted to online offerings very quickly and potential attendees were left scrambling to cancel their travel plans.
“Making this decision now gives us time to plan a great online experience,” Shannahan said. “We’re looking to take full advantage of creative ways of connecting with our members and other industry leaders.”
