WQA Provides Its Code of Ethics in Spanish

The Water Quality Association’s Code of Ethics, which sets standards of conduct for water treatment industry members in their dealings with each other, their customers, members of related industries, government officials and regulators, and the public at large, has been translated into Spanish for the first time.  The document, prepared at WQA members’ requests, is available online for convenient industry and consumer reference.

“The Code of Ethics spells out WQA’s commitment to promoting the highest principles of honesty, integrity, and professionalism in our industry and outlines expectations for how our members deal fairly with each other and the public,” said WQA General Counsel Mike Sennett. “WQA members have asked us to provide this information in Spanish so that more consumers will be knowledgeable about what to expect from ethical water treatment providers.”

All WQA members pledge to abide by the Code of Ethics. If an investigation finds a member company has violated the Code and created consumer harm or confusion, the company can be subject to cease-and-desist directives or even termination of their WQA membership.

From time to time, WQA warns consumers of unethical door-to-door practices in different parts of the country, and often these practices are seen in communities with residents whose first language is Spanish rather than English.

The Code was revised effective January 1, 2020, to provide guidance on the use of marketing terms to avoid consumer confusion. Any WQA member with specific questions related to the WQA Code of Ethics should contact Quality Manager Tambra Thomas.
