On February 6, 2023, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake devastated large areas in Turkey and Syria, causing a significant number of deaths and displacing hundreds of thousands of refugees who desperately need access to water, food, and shelter.
To support those impacted by the natural disaster, Watts generously donated a Planet Water Foundation AquaBlock Emergency Water System, which provides clean, safe drinking water in the wake of emergencies and natural disasters.
The system, which was placed at a relocation area where people impacted by the earthquake are currently living, offers a lifeline to impacted communities by creating access to a turnkey emergency water supply system housed in a lockable, vandal-resistant, aluminum container. To ensure the safety of users, there is a four-stage water purification process to turn surface- and groundwater into clean, potable water.
“As part of our Environmental, Social, and Governance strategy, we are committed to being a socially responsible organization that helps make people and communities safer, healthier, and stronger, which includes supporting vulnerable populations through major natural disasters that disrupt access to clean drinking water,” said Monica Barry, Watts Chief Human Resources Officer.
An AquaBlock system can support daily drinking requirements of up to 10,000 people, which will make a very positive impact on the lives of many individuals affected by the earthquake’s damage.
