We are pleased to announce that Cynthia Cogil, PE, and John O. Varley, PE, LEED AP, were elevated to the grade of Fellow by ASHRAE during its recent Virtual Winter Conference. Fellow ASHRAE is a membership grade that recognizes ASHRAE members who have attained distinction and made substantial contributions in HVAC&R and the built environment such as education, research, engineering design and consultation, publications, presentations, and mentoring.
Cogil is Principal, Director of Engineering at SmithGroup in Chicago, where she has worked in various roles since 1998. She previously worked at Syska Hennessy Group as a Mechanical Designer. Cogil has a B.S. in Architectural Engineering from the University of Kansas and an M.S. in Architectural Engineering from Penn State University. She joined ASPE in 2013.
Varley is the Mechanical Discipline Manager at AAA Engineering Ltd. in Chicago. He previously worked as a Mechanical Engineer at Harley Ellis Devereaux, Grumman/Butkus Associates, Jacobs Carter Burgess, and The Austin Company. Varley has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Akron and an M.S. in Chemical Engineering from Cleveland State University. He joined ASPE in 2020.
