Presidential Member Calvin Laws Passes Away

A. Calvin Laws, PE, CPD-Retired, FASPE,  joined ASPE in 1970 and was a member of the San Francisco Chapter Board of Directors for several years before being elected to the ASPE Board of Directors, where he served as Treasurer, First Vice President, and President. During his decades-long career in the industry, Cal had a wide range of experience in the engineering, design, and construction of heating, refrigeration, air-conditioning, plumbing, fire protection, and process piping systems with consulting engineering and contracting firms. He later formed Laws & Associates Inc. in Burlingame, California, a family firm that focuses on the design of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.

Cal earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University in 1962. He served as a part-time instructor in the Engineering Technology Department at San Francisco City College for most of his career and helped implement an Engineered Plumbing Design certificate program at the college. Cal also authored many ASPE publications, including Engineered Plumbing Design, and was a trainer and mentor to many of his fellow San Francisco Chapter members.

A memorial is being held November 22 at Crosby-N. Gray & Co. funeral home in Burlingame, California at 11 a.m., followed by gravesite service at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Colma. For more information, his obituary can be found here.
