United Air TempThe Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors—National Association (PHCC) recently presented its 2022 HVAC Contractor of the Year Award to Mike Giordano and Francis “Butch” McGonegal of United Air Temp, headquartered in Lorton, Virginia. The award—co-sponsored by PHCC Corporate Partner Rheem Manufacturing Co.®—was presented at PHCC’s annual conference PHCCCONNECT2022, held in Charlotte, North Carolina, recognizing excellence in the heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning profession.

“Eleven years ago, United Air Temp was recognized by PHCC as an outstanding HVAC contractor,” said the event emcee. “The company’s performance, under the direction of Giordano and McGonegal during these subsequent years, truly projects as an American success story.”

Giordano joined the company as part of United Air Temp’s Leadership Program with a freshly minted psychology degree. “Mike’s success stems from his vast management and human resources expertise, along with his calculated ability to deploy key resources that drive organizational growth,” says Susan Milhoan, PHCC of Virginia Executive Director.

Partnered with McGonegal, who serves as the face of the company, United Air Temp has grown exponentially in the past decade. Today, the company has more than 700 employees with operations in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

In the markets they serve, as well as with regulatory agencies, United Air Temp is highly regarded as a company that operates with integrity. As announced at the PHCC awards ceremony, the basic principles the company employs in ensuring that it does the “right thing” include: if something is done wrong, it is fixed, no matter the cost; if people have the perception the company did something wrong, the company removes all financial reward from the equation; United Air Temp always crosses the bridge to understand its customers’ point of view.

Leveraging organic growth, strategic acquisitions, and savvy business acumen, United Air Temp revenues have increased 500 percent over the last decade.
