The past year and half surely have been a whirlwind of new experiences and challenges for all of us. We had to adjust and deal with the adversity of working, learning, and meeting in the virtual world. Starting a new position as the Region 2 Director and member of the ASPE Board of Directors during these times has been challenging, but I have been very fortunate to have the support, assistance, and patience of the Region 2 Chapter Presidents as we navigated through this learning experience. The experienced members of the Board, ASPE Executive Director/CEO Billy Smith, FASPE, ASPE President Carol Johnson, CPD, LEED AP, CFI, FASPE, and the ASPE Staff have provided great leadership, mentoring, and guidance to all of the new ASPE Board members as we learn the means, ways, and business of ASPE.
As you’ve probably heard, the 2021 ASPE Tech Symposium in San Diego was a record-breaking event. The event accommodations and itinerary were exceptional and beyond my expectations. Region 2 was well represented and recognized at the West Coast-hosted gathering, with eight out twelve Region 2 Chapters in attendance. Region 2 Chapters and members brought home many awards and special recognition that were well deserved. It was truly a pleasure to finally see and meet so many Region 2 representatives and other familiar ASPE faces in person. The attendees’ energy and enthusiasm were so evident, from the Product Show through the technical classes that really elevated my first in-person event experience as a new ASPE Board member.
I was pleased to present 2020–2021 Region 2 Director’s Awards to Dann Holmes (Eastern Michigan Chapter), the Eastern Michigan Chapter (President: Pam Hartsell, CPD, PMP), and the Toronto Chapter (President: Brian Young, P.Eng.).
