October 2021 From the President’s Pen: A Sold-Out Event!

Wow, what a great Symposium and Product Show. ASPE sold out the 2021 Tech Symposium! It was a wonderful event for those who were able to attend due to the hard work of ASPE Staff, the Host Committee, and the Board of Directors. We were excited to be in San Diego and even more excited to see everyone.

The event started with a bang: the ASPE Young Professionals (AYP) Leadership Academy sponsored by Zurn, which was filled with happy, excited members. The Leadership Academy was followed by the first part of the (sold out) Product Show. What outstanding support we received from both our Sponsors and our members. It was evident that they wanted face-to-face interaction, as the show floor was very well attended both days.

The Women of ASPE (WOA) meetup was held after the Product Show on Thursday evening at the restaurant/bar in the host hotel. It also was well attended, and by that time it was more than obvious that this was going to be a great weekend.

The Technical Education Program was held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The sessions were packed with attendees who learned about changes to the plumbing codes, fire protection technologies, and sustainability in construction, among many other topics. If you were looking for current technical information, the 2021 ASPE Tech Symposium was the place to be.

As always, we had a great welcome party, which was sponsored by Charlotte Pipe. Attendees socialized poolside with appetizers and drinks, and all were so happy to be there. Thank you, Charlotte Pipe, for the great party!

On Saturday we had a lunch ceremony to present Chapter and member awards. Congratulations to everyone who was honored this year. You can find the list of the much-deserved recipients on ASPE Pipeline.

Again, though, all of the attendees were the true highlight of the event. We got to see each other and reconnect. It was great to sit by the pool and talk to all of you. To those of you with whom I had the pleasure of talking, I greatly appreciate your comments and kind words. If we weren’t able to connect, please come to the 2022 ASPE Convention & Expo in Indianapolis on September 16–21. Registration will open in the spring, and if San Diego was any sign of attendance, you should register as soon as you can.

Collectively, the ASPE Staff and Board make a team working together for the betterment of ASPE. Our Staff did a great job. It was an amazing event! Thank you to everyone. To my fellow Board members, thank you for greeting our members, monitoring our classes, and managing the business of the Society.

Wow—a sold-out event! What a great accomplishment for our members.
