NGWA Offers New PFAS Educational Resource for Contractors

The National Ground Water Association (NGWA) has released a new educational resource for water well contractors concerning per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). “PFAS Risk Communication for Contractors” is an accessible fact sheet written by members of NGWA’s PFAS Task Force to aid communication between water well contractors and their clients on the growing risks of PFAS contamination.

PFAS Risk Communication for Contractors” can be found at NGWA’s PFAS Resource Center, which contains numerous fact sheets, articles, and resources on PFAS and its impact on groundwater.

“As public awareness of PFAS contamination grows, water well contractors have found themselves on the front lines addressing concerns and remediation options with the public,” said NGWA PFAS Task Force Chair David S. Lipson, Ph.D., PG, Principal Hydrogeologist at HRS Water Consultants Inc. “Educating the public about groundwater contamination issues can be intimidating and often unsettling, so we think it’s important to offer resources that can help communicate these issues in ways that are easy to understand and offer potential solutions.”

NGWA has long been an industry leader in providing PFAS research, education, and resources to the public and scientific communities. In 2017, NGWA published Groundwater and PFAS: State of Knowledge and Practice, which was one of the first PFAS guidance documents to be released.

Earlier this year, NGWA released “PFAS and Private Well Owners: What You Need to Know,” a fact sheet contractors can provide to water well owners that contains information on PFAS and private water systems.
