ICC Releases Draft Revisions of Solar Thermal Standards for Public Comment

The International Code Council (ICC) and the Solar Rating & Certification Corporation (ICC-SRCC) announce the release of the First Public Review Drafts of the ICC 901/SRCC 100 and ICC 900/SRCC 300 standards for solar thermal collectors and systems. The standards are undergoing a review and revision process under ICC’s ANSI-approved standard development procedures that started in 2019. The ICC/SRCC solar thermal standards serve as the basis for SRCC’s OG-100, OG-300, and OG-400 certification programs.

Under that process, ICC’s Solar Thermal Standard Consensus Committee (IS-STSC) solicited proposals for changes to the standard and worked to review and incorporate revisions to the current 2015 versions. The committee also convened working groups to address specific topics like photovoltaic-thermal hybrid collectors (PVTs), concentrating collectors, and fire safety. Many recommendations from these working groups were also incorporated into the draft documents. After a series of meetings, the IS-STSC voted to finalize the first draft and authorize a formal Public Review Period.

“Solar water heating technologies have continued to advance within the last few years, and many of the proposed updates to the ICC/SRCC standards reflect this,” said Shawn Martin, Vice President, SRCC. “The IS-STSC is looking forward to feedback on new provisions addressing topics like PV-thermal hybrid collectors, PV water heating systems, and concentrating collectors.”

The Public Review will be conducted until August 3, 2020. The draft documents are available for download from the committee webpage. Since comments may only be submitted on the changes to the documents, changes are indicated using strikeout and underline formatting. The documents include instructions for submitting public comments and the required submission form. All comments must be received by August 3, 2020.
