We would like to thank the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) for reaffirming their support of the plumbing engineering industry by renewing as an ASPE Affiliate Sponsor for the next year. IAPMO joined the program in 2013.
The IAPMO Group is a complete service organization, providing code development assistance, industry-leading education, plumbing and mechanical product testing and certification, building product evaluation, and a manufacturer-preferred quality assurance program. Sponsor of the Uniform Codes, IAPMO has been protecting the public’s health and safety for more than 85 years by working in concert with government and industry to implement comprehensive plumbing and mechanical systems around the world.
The 2021 versions of the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) and Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC) were published last year using IAPMO’s ANSI-accredited consensus development procedures, marking the seventh time these codes have been developed in this manner. Introduced in Los Angeles in 1928 and formally published as the Uniform Plumbing Code in 1945, the UPC is developed to govern the installation and inspection of plumbing systems as a means of promoting the public’s health, safety and welfare. Later published by IAPMO in 1967, the UMC provides the same governance for mechanical (HVAC, combustion, exhaust, refrigeration) systems. Developed and subsequently republished at the conclusion of each three-year code cycle, the UPC and UMC are designed to provide consumers with plumbing, heating, and mechanical systems that meet all applicable standards while, at the same time, allowing latitude for innovation and new technologies.
ASPE’s Affiliate Sponsors comprise a crucial group of manufacturers and service providers who are essential in helping plumbing engineers design the most technologically advanced plumbing systems.
