Get to Know Frank Marsh

Every few weeks, ASPE will interview one of our amazing members to help you “Get to Know” them. Here, we are pleased to introduce Frank Marsh, a member of the Richmond Chapter.

ASPE: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?
Frank: New Zealand, easy answer. Beautiful landscape, great wine and culture.

ASPE: What are your hobbies outside of work?
Frank: I enjoy being outdoors. I enjoy snowboarding, bodyboarding and being at the beach, fishing, hiking, camping, and just being outdoors, typically with the two dogs who I try to take everywhere. Cooking has always been a hobby of mine; I have cooked in countless kitchens throughout my life. I pretty much leave that to my wife these days, with the exception of using the smoker and grill.

ASPE: Which historical figure would you most want to meet and why?
Frank: Michael Jordan, he was the greatest.

ASPE: What do you do to relax?
Frank: Perfect remedy – glass of red wine or bourbon and sitting outside.

ASPE: What is your favorite childhood memory?
Frank: Probably on more than one occasion, working on the car or the yard with my dad growing up. Back then I hated it but I learned a lot from him, and when I look back I wish I had paid attention more.

ASPE: If you could play any sport professionally, what would it be and why?
Frank: Golf. Not because I’m good at it; I’m not. I could really use a lesson. I think it would be the best sport to be really good at. You travel the world, really have no expenses, and even if you finish last, you still get a nice payout.

ASPE: If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
Frank: I think somewhere along the Outer Banks. I grew up not far from there and spent a lot of time there. It’s quiet (some parts), has beautiful weather, and they have great fishing and waves.

ASPE: What is your favorite meal?
Frank: Chicken parm, I’ll take it wherever I can get it.

ASPE: Are you a movie buff? What is your favorite movie?
Frank: I love movies, any kind really. I can find a reason to enjoy pretty much any movie, whether it be the soundtrack, the way a scene was shot, or just good acting. I’d say right now my favorite is either Goodfellas or The Departed (big Scorsese fan).

ASPE: What is one interesting ability you have or an interesting fact about yourself?
Frank: I’m pretty good at Jeopardy.

ASPE: What did you want to be when you were a child?
Frank: A chef. Grueling hours drove me away from that.

ASPE: If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be?
Frank: I would have to say take my dad skiing at Big Sky Montana. He went a long time ago and still talks about it. It’s on my list of places to visit.

ASPE: What is your favorite game or sport to watch and play?
Frank: To watch, college basketball. To play, probably golf.

ASPE: Would you rather win the lottery or work at the perfect job?
Frank: The perfect job IS winning the lottery. I don’t think I am the type who could no longer “work.” I like to stay busy, and work gives you a sense of accomplishment.

ASPE: Who would you want to be stranded with on a deserted island?
Frank: My bud from home, Val. He is very resourceful and can make any situation fun.

ASPE: What’s your favorite type of foreign food?
Frank: Can I say Italian…?

ASPE: What song would you say best sums you up?
Frank: Call me the breeze – Lynyrd Skynard.

ASPE: What is your proudest accomplishment?
Frank: Finishing this questionnaire, haha.
