Former Facebook, SpaceX Executive to Headline the 2022 WQA Convention & Exposition

A communications expert with more than a decade’s experience at the heart of the technology industry will discuss technology trends and the future workplace in his keynote address to the 2022 Water Quality Association Convention & Exposition on April 6–8 in Orlando. Dex Hunter-Torricke will address the convention’s Opening General Session, which begins at 3 p.m. ET Wednesday, April 6, at the Orange County Convention Center.

“Our convention theme is ‘Impact,’ so Dex is a perfect fit,” said WQA Executive Director Pauli Undesser. “His experience as a speechwriter and communications leader for Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, and other technology industry giants makes his message captivating. Additionally, I found his message very pragmatic and that his experience affords him an up-close-and-personal view of ways companies can embrace change, connectivity, and the emergence of a global generation.”

Dex is Head of Communications for the Oversight Board, the independent body making decisions on Facebook’s and Instagram’s most challenging content issues. Previously he was Director of Communications at SpaceX, and before that he led the Executive Communications Team at Facebook and served as Zuckerberg’s speech writer. He also has worked as an executive speech writer at Google.

Dex combines his experience working for some of the world’s most-innovative and technology-driven brands with his passion for social innovation to help companies shift towards a 21st century business methodology. His WQA address, “The World in Sight: A Guide to the Key Technological Trends of the Next 10–20 Years and What They Mean for Your Business,” will look at societal trends and the development of specific technologies to forecast which ones will take hold and how they will alter life, workplace dynamics, and business operations permanently.

WQA’s Opening General Session, held the afternoon of the convention’s first day, also will feature remarks from industry leaders, presentation of WQA’s Leadership Awards, and the association’s Annual Meeting, at which members will hear a financial report and elect new members to WQA’s Board of Directors.

For nearly 50 years, the WQA Convention and Exposition has been the signature event of the water treatment industry. Education sessions are offered on all three days, and the tradeshow floor is open April 7 and 8.

WQA’s popular Business Boot Camp will be offered alongside the convention. This intensive one-day workshop in all aspects of running a water treatment business will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 5, also at the Orange County Convention Center.

Also on April 5, WQA will host its popular Commercial/Industrial RO Sizing Workshop from 1 to 5 p.m. Peter Cartwright, MWS, PE, of Cartwright Consulting Co., teaches the highly interactive class, which could earn participants 0.4 Continuing Professional Development credit toward recertification.

More details and registration information for the Convention, RO Sizing Workshop, and Boot Camp can be found at wqa.org/convention.
