ASPE Life Member Passes Away

Our condolences go to the family of Ollie J. French Jr., FASPE, a dedicated and long-time member of ASPE’s New Orleans Chapter, who passed away on October 30. Ollie was born and raised in New Orleans and was a resident of Metairie, Louisiana for 62 years. He attended Our Lady of Good Counsel and Redemptorist High School in 1955 and graduated from Delgado Community College in 1957, where he studied drafting.

Ollie began his career in 1957 as a design draftsman with Guillot, Sullivan, and Vogt Engineering, which later became known as GVA Engineering, where he worked until retiring in 2010. He also held a position on the Jefferson Parish Plumbing Licensing Board for several years and served in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1956 until 1960.

Ollie joined ASPE in 1974, and he was President of the New Orleans Chapter from 1978–1979. He also served as the New Orleans Chapter Historian and Corresponding Secretary. Ollie was granted Life Membership with ASPE in 2008, and in 2010 he was inducted into the Kenneth G. Wentink College of Fellows, ASPE’s highest honor.
