Update: 2020 CPD Exam Postponed

Due to the rapidly changing situation surrounding the COVID-19 virus, ASPE’s Credentialing Committee has decided to postpone this year’s scheduled CPD Exam. The original exam dates were March 30 – April 5, 2020. With many cities and states issuing school and business closures, it is in our best interest to postpone the examination until later this year. The revised dates are June 15 – 21, 2020. There will be no CPD Examination delivery during the original exam testing window.

For candidates who previously scheduled their examination and paid the fee, your examination will be cancelled and you will be immediately issued a refund. Shortly after, you will receive an updated Authorization to Test email from Pearson VUE. You will be required to resubmit payment. If you are an ASPE member, please ensure you use the code you were sent to reduce the exam fee to the member pricing.

For candidates who have not previously scheduled their examination, you will receive an updated Authorization to Test email from Pearson VUE. There is nothing for you to do other than await that email.

For the two groups of individuals above, after you receive the revised Authorization to Test email, please log back in to home.pearsonvue.com/aspe and reschedule your exam appointment. (Your login is not the same as your aspe.org account.)

Instructions may alter after receiving this notice, but we will be as transparent and up to date as we can. Please follow up with Pam Rosenberg, CAE, ASPE’s Director of Education and Credentialing, if you have any questions. She is and continues to be your point of contact for the examination. The best way to reach out is via [email protected].

For those who are still interested in taking the annual CPD Exam and have not previously expressed interest, please visit aspe.org/education-credentialing/cpd/cpdexaminterest to notify ASPE that you wish to take the exam this year.

The revised deadline schedule is as follows:

  • Registration closes: June 4, 2020
  • Exam dates: June 15 – 21, 2020

We sincerely apologize for any inconveniences this may cause. We wanted to get ahead of any test center closures, provide time for candidates to coordinate with their employers and families, and provide our exam candidates with the most ideal testing environment possible. All other aspects of the examination are unchanged. We invite all those who are sitting for this year’s exam and future candidates to join us on March 18 at 12 p.m. EDT for an informational webinar presented by ASPE staff. Registration is free.

To be eligible to take the CPD Examination, you must possess:

  • A minimum of four years of experience in a position of responsibility for the design of plumbing systems and possess a baccalaureate degree in a field related to engineering
  • In lieu of an accredited degree, a candidate may substitute up to an additional four years of practical experience in the design of plumbing systems, for a total of eight years, or be granted a credit of one-half year of practical experience for each full year of education in an accredited curriculum related to plumbing engineering

ASPE Members who are in the Full member category are automatically eligible to sit for the examination.

About the CPD Program

The Certified in Plumbing Design program is an international certification program for engineers and designers of plumbing systems. Completion of the CPD program and examination confers upon the successful candidate the designation Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD). The certification program provides the profession, the plumbing industry, and the general public with a single, comprehensive qualification of professional competence for engineers and designers of plumbing systems.

The CPD, which is the only international credential program in the plumbing engineering field, sets the standards for leadership within the industry and provides formal recognition of outstanding professionals with advanced skills in the design and specification of plumbing systems.
