Education & Credentialing

Welcome! ASPE is the premier organization to continue and develop your professional development of plumbing engineering and design. Here you'll find more information about our two main certification programs, Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD) and Certified Plumbing Design Technician (CPDT), our certificate program, Green Plumbing Design (GPD), how to maintain your certifications and licenses, and more.

Continuing Education

Where should you begin? Great question. ASPE has an extensive catalogue of on-demand courses and articles to further your education or refresh your knowledge on a variety of topics. ASPE hosts monthly webinars, quarterly workshops, and publishes monthly Read, Learn, Earn articles for you to earn valuable CEUs.

Certification Programs

ASPE administers two certification programs and one certificate program for plumbing design professionals.

Our premier and flagship certification program is the Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD) certification. The CPD program is an international certification program for engineers and designers of plumbing systems. Completion of the CPD examination confers upon the successful candidate the designation Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD).

Our Certified Plumbing Design Technician (CPDT) certification program was developed as a precursor to the CPD certification and offers successful individuals earlier on in their careers to highlight their achievements and dedication to the plumbing design industry.

Green Plumbing Design Certificate Program

The Green Plumbing Design (GPD) certificate program, sponsored by the ASPE and the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO), is for engineers and designers with advanced skills in sustainable plumbing system design and consulting. Available only for engineers and designers who hold either the CPD certification or a Professional Engineer (PE) license, the GPD certificate denotes professionals with a high level of experience and training in sustainable practices. The GPD designation signifies professionals who are dedicated to ensuring the efficient use of our precious water resources via water-conserving plumbing system designs for commercial and residential applications.
