WOA scholarship will help a deserving member attend the 2019 ASPE Tech Symposium
The scholarship will cover the registration fee, special events, roundtrip airfare, hotel accommodations, airport transportation, and meals, as well as a one-year ASPE membership renewal. To be eligible, you must be a female student enrolled in an engineering program at a college/university or employed in the engineering field with less than five years of work experience. Applications are due May 31.

ASPE joins industry organizations in the development of ASHRAE Standard 514
NSF International recently transferred facilitation of NSF Standard 444: Minimizing Risk of Disease and Injury Associated with Building Water Systems to ASHRAE to complete the standard development process and publish it as ASHRAE Standard 514. As a voting member of NSF 444, ASPE will continue in the same capacity to help finish this important industry standard. More>>

The program is currently in need of mentors who are experienced in the following areas: CPD, GPD, CPDT, and Society/Chapter leadership. ASPE's Mentoring Program connects ASPE members who have a particular skill set (mentors) with individuals (mentees) who are searching to acquire the same skills to develop and make progress toward their personal and professional goals. Legionella risk mitigation webinar is being held next week
On April 18, this one-hour webinar will discuss equipment that kills or captures bacteria, general plumbing system design/selections to consider to eliminate bacteria growth locations, and considerations in piping materials to promote flow. If you can't attend next week, this webinar will be archived for viewing at a later date.

Thermoplastics webinar is free for ASPE members thanks to Corzan Piping Systems
On May 15, "Specification and Design Considerations for Thermoplastics in Commercial Water Applications" will explore the various issues encountered when replacing metals with thermoplastics, including pressure and temperature ratings and mechanical and environmental factors that can affect long-term performance. Attendees will receive 0.1 CEU or 1.0 PDH for participating.

Get back to the basics at our workshop in Chicago
This two-day course on June 27–28 at ASPE's headquarters in Rosemont, Illinois will cover the design, sizing, and equipment selection for storm drainage, domestic hot and cold water, water heating, sanitary sewer, and natural gas systems. Attendees will earn 1.3 CEUs, and registration is open at aspe.org/BasicsWorkshop.

New poll indicates bipartisan support for water infrastructure investments
More than three-fourths of respondents said rebuilding America's infrastructure is extremely or very important, and the support for investing in water infrastructure cut across age, gender, party, geography, and ideology, according to the fourth-annual national poll by the Value of Water.

UNICEF report highlights the lack of water and sanitation services in many hospitals across the world
The first comprehensive global assessment of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in healthcare facilities found that one in eight healthcare facilities are without water service, and one in five have no sanitation service. These conditions affect more than 1 billion people. More>>

WQA issues manganese standard
Developed in collaboration with Health Canada and the Standards Council of Canada, WQA ORD1901 will allow manufacturers to test and certify their products for health-based manganese removal claims.

Empowering Women in Industry starts a new podcast and opens conference registration
The Empowering Women Podcast, hosted by Mel The Engineer, will share stories from inspiring women working in male-dominated fields to encourage the next generation of leaders. Empowering Women in Industry 2019 is a one-day conference and awards gala on September 26 in Chicago.

Building Safety Month website is launched
The new website includes information on the 2019 campaign, a toolkit, promotional materials, educational materials for schoolchildren, and more about this annual initiative celebrated in May.

Women in Energy is accepting award nominations
Applications for the annual Woman of the Year award, which recognizes an outstanding woman in the energy field, is April 15. Nominations may be self-nominated or nominated by another person. More>>
