Watts to host the ASPE First-Time Attendee Reception at the 2018 ASPE Convention & Expo
Those who are attending their first ASPE Convention & Expo this year are invited to a special reception on the show floor at the Watts Water Technologies booth (#1150) after the Expo on October 1. ASPE announces the 2017–2018 Award of Merit winners
ASPE's Award of Merit is presented to those individuals who have performed outstanding and meritorious service to the Society and the profession. This year the Society decided to honor two deserving members:

  • Jason S.A. McDonald, CPD, Chicago Chapter: In recognition of his leadership as the Chair of the Membership Committee, working toward retaining and growing the Society's membership
  • Nicholas Hipp, CPD, St. Louis Chapter: For demonstrating a high level of stewardship and dedication to advancing education of the health, welfare, and safety of the public by representing ASPE in the 2017 Community Plumbing Challenge in Cicau Village, Cikarang, Indonesia

Registration is open for the 2018 CPDT exam
ASPE developed the Certified Plumbing Design Technician program to provide professional recognition of qualified individuals who design plumbing systems but who do not yet have the experience required for the Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD) credential. Water-softening additives may increase the risk of pathogen release into drinking water
A study by a team of University of Illinois engineers shows that the addition of anti-scalant chemicals to drinking water distribution systems can cause biofilm to grow thicker and become softer, increasing the chance that bacteria will detach and foul the water supply. More>>

ASHRAE announces call for papers for its 2019 Conference
The 2019 ASHRAE Annual Conference will be held in Kansas City, Missouri on June 22–26, and presentation submissions are due by August 21. Conference tracks include HVAC&R Systems and Equipment in the Built Environment, Optimization in HVAC&R, Commissioning New & Existing Buildings, and Modeling Throughout the Building Life Cycle, among others.
