2011 CPD Exam Registration Is Open

The 2011 Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD) Examination will be held in electronic format on April 15 or April 16 at 200 testing facilities across the country. Registration for the exam begins January 4 at www.aspe.org/CPDCertification. The deadline to register is March 18.

What Is the CPD Program?

ASPE developed the CPD program to provide independent recognition, based on a valid and reliable assessment process, of qualified individuals who design plumbing systems. The CPD program:

• Provides a standard of professional competence in the practice of plumbing engineering.
• Identifies and recognizes those individuals who successfully complete the examination, thereby demonstrating their acquired knowledge and abilities in the field of plumbing engineering.
• Ensures ongoing maintenance of competencies through a mandatory recertification process.

The CPD program provides the profession, the plumbing industry, and the general public with a single, comprehensive qualification of professional competence for engineers and designers of plumbing systems.

Who Can Sit for the Exam?

To be eligible to take the CPD Examination, a candidate must possess a minimum of four years of practical experience in a position of responsibility for the design of plumbing systems and possess a baccalaureate degree in a field related to engineering. In lieu of an accredited degree, a candidate may substitute an additional four years of practical experience in the design of plumbing systems (for a total of eight years) or be granted a credit of one half year of practical experience for each one full year of education in an accredited curriculum related to plumbing engineering.

Full members of ASPE are automatically approved to sit for the exam because the requirements for full membership are consistent with the above eligibility requirements. Successful completion of the CPD Examination confers upon the candidate the designation Certified in Plumbing Design, or CPD. Individuals who have passed the CPD Examination and achieved the CPD designation are required to maintain the designation through a biennial recertification program.
