Board of Director’s Meeting…
The next Board of Director’s Meeting will be held July 16th and 17th at ASPE Headquarters in Chicago. The Board will be discussing the latest events surrounding ASPE and we will be focusing on the upcoming Convention in Philadelphia as well as the search for our new Executive Director.
The Board meeting is my opportunity to bring any concerns the Chapters of Region 2 have about any issue regarding ASPE. I have already started a list of things to talk about and if you have any issues you would like me to bring before the Board, please let me know. I will need to receive your comments no later than Wednesday, July 14th.
Convention and Engineered Plumbing Exposition…
As you all are aware, the 2010 ASPE Convention and EPE will be held from October 28th through November 3rd at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The theme of this year’s event is “Ringing in the Future of ASPE.” Attendees will have almost 50 technical education sessions to choose from which will be presented by experts in the field of Plumbing Engineering in addition to the largest plumbing product exposition in the country.
Our Executive Director, Stan Wolfson has secured very inexpensive room rates at the downtown Marriott, Marriott Courtyard, Loews, and Hampton Inn hotels. The Housing Bureau has already opened and they are taking reservations right now, so please do not delay in making your reservations. The Marriott is the Convention hotel and there are a limited number of rooms available so please make sure you make your reservations for all of your Delegates and everyone else from your Chapter who will be attending this great event.
Registration has also begun for the Convention and Engineered Plumbing Exposition so please take advantage of the discounts offered for early registration. You and all of the attendees from your Chapter can save a lot of money by registering early so I would encourage you to register as soon as possible.
ASPE has announced that the 2010 World Toilet Organization (WTO) Summit will be held in conjunction with the ASPE Convention. ASPE is partnering with the International Code Council to oversee this event and this is the first time that it will be held in the United States. The WTO will be presenting a special track on international sanitation topics so please refer to the Convention brochure for more information on these sessions.
Delegates…
The Chapter list of Delegates and Alternates must be complete and turned into Society no later than Thursday, July 15th. Don’t forget, your Delegates will be playing a very important role
because they will be voting on the proposed bylaw changes as well as electing the next Board of Directors at the Business Meeting. The Delegates will be representing your Chapter and are your voice so please make sure they understand their roles and are willing to accept their responsibilities before you submit their names next week.
Annual Chapter Reports and the Award of Merit…
I have completed my review of the Annual Chapter Reports that each of you submitted at the President’s Meeting last month. These reports have now been submitted to the Board of Directors for their review and comments. If there are any questions or concerns, I will be contacting you for a clarification.
This year, there are many Chapters who will not be receiving the Award of Merit. This is due to various reasons but one of the biggest issues has been the drop in overall membership. Because membership has slipped this year, many Chapters will not be earning any points for membership growth which helps you qualify for the Award.
I know membership retention and growth are difficult right now but I would like to suggest that everyone make this a priority. The extra effort that you put in to retain and grow membership not only helps out the Society but it also earns you points towards the Award of Merit.
I would also like to challenge all of the Chapters to offer one additional two hour minimum training session this year. As we all know, quality educational programs pique the interest of those in the engineering community and hopefully you can generate some interest in ASPE. I would also like to encourage every Chapter to consider a joint project of some type. These additional programs will give your members another reason to remain a member as well as give any potential new members another reason to join the Society.
One other benefit for all of these additional programs is that you will be earning points that will help you earn the Award of Merit next year. It is also never too early to start developing plans for extra Chapter publications or to have someone from your Chapter join a Society Committee. Everyone benefits as a result of these extra efforts.
Annual Treasurer’s Reports…
Don’t forget, each Chapter is required to submit an electronic copy and a hard copy of the Treasurer’s Report to me by Thursday, July 15th. The hard copy must be signed by both the incoming and outgoing Chapter Presidents and Treasurers. Charter renewal is required for each Chapter to qualify for and receive dues rebates and to have Delegate representation at the Convention so please make sure all reports are completed and submitted on time. Please send hard copies of the report to my attention at: Westlake Reed Leskosky, 925 Euclid Avenue, Suite 1900, Cleveland, OH 44115
Thanks to those Chapters who have already sent in their Treasurer’s Reports.
Elections…
I would like to thank all of the outgoing Chapter Officers for all of their hard work promoting ASPE this past year. Your Chapters and the Society have grown thanks to your efforts. It has been an honor to work with you and hopefully your experience has been a good one.
I would also like to congratulate all of the new incoming Chapter Officers and all of you who are serving another term on your Boards. I look forward to working with each of you as we do our part to increase the overall awareness of ASPE. As a team we have many challenges in front of us but if we all work together, we can overcome those challenges for the betterment of our Chapters and the Society.
If you need anything, please do not hesitate to contact me. It is my pleasure to serve you.
Have a great day!

Mitch,
We will have four people going including myself. Do you need the names? We are meeting to confirm on the 28th. I will be able to pass on the names at that time. We are also trying to get national to update the web page but still no progress to date. Who do I talk to?
