The Passing of a Good Friend
I am sure most of you are aware that Vice President Technical and long time ASPE supporter Norman Parks passed away early in the morning of May 10th, 2009. I know a lot has been written about Norman, as well it should be. But I must say I have met quite a few people in my time with ASPE and can think of none more deserving of respect and admiration among his peers. Norman was a family man, a good worker and a Godly man and he will be missed but I do look forward to meeting him again when the time comes.
Year End Reports—Membership
Most are aware the chapter annual reports are due by the Region Meetings and that these reports are required to maintain a chapter’s charter. Although the chapter President has overall responsibility for the preparation and submittal of these reports it is each chapter officer’s responsibility for his or her report section. It’s important to understand the reason for these reports. As stated in the ASPE Policy & Operations Manual - The objectives of the Annual Reports are; 1) to provide a comprehensive record of the chapter activities during the preceding year; 2) to standardize the chapter reporting process to the Society; 3) to provide the Society Board of Directors with the material required for review and approval for the annual renewal of the chapter charter. Charter renewal is required for a chapter to qualify for, and receive, the quarterly dues rebates, and to have delegate representation at the biannual ASPE Convention; 4) to provide the necessary information for establishing eligibility for and granting the chapter Award of Merit. I want to write a little about what the Vice President Memberships responsibilities with regards to this report. The chapter annual report is now in a digital format utilizing a Word document file for the main chapter annual report forms and an Excel document for the treasurer’s report forms. The Vice President Membership should familiarize himself or herself with the basic chapter annual report form in order to provide the necessary information to the chapter President who is responsible for filing the chapter annual report in a timely manner. There are three sections the Vice President Membership needs to be aware of. In the membership information section, the Vice President Membership needs to describe the programs the chapter uses to promote new members. He or she will need to list and describe recruitment and retention programs and what the Chapter Membership Committee has done to retain and keep chapter members active. In the Chapter Officer’s Roster section the Vice President Membership needs to make sure his or her information is current. This will help society when needing to contact you. This information is used to update the information on ASPEnet. A big part of the Award of Merit section is Chapter Membership Growth. Please be sure you have accurate information in this section. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need to verify any membership information.
