Welcome Plumbing Systems and Design Magazine
|

|
By now everyone should have heard — the time has come for ASPE to forge ahead with the development of its own
publication. For the past 29 years, ASPE has had a symbiotic relationship with the publishers of Plumbing Engineer . The
Society did not own or have any partial ownership inPlumbing Engineer Magazine. Thus, ASPE is pleased to announce the
start of a new magazine, Plumbing Systems and Design , the official magazine of the American Society of Plumbing
Engineers.

End of an Era
One of the difficult situations with starting a new magazine is ending a 29-year relationship with Plumbing Engineer
Magazine. While ASPE has enjoyed a quality relationship with the magazine, Plumbing Engineer is an independent
publication. As such, ASPE had no direct control over the editorial content, the look and feel of the magazine, or technical

review of articles. One of the desires of the Society is to be able to control its official publication.
This will allow the publication to reflect the views and opinions of the Society and provide the
membership with a well-rounded and fully representative magazine.

Additional Benefits
One of the additional benefits of a successful magazine is the potential for revenue generated by
ad sales. For the first 25 years ASPE had an official publication, the Society received no revenue
from the magazine. In the last 4 years, ASPE received a minor monthly stipend from Plumbing
Engineer magazine as part of the contractual agreement to remain the official publication of the
Society. With ownership of a magazine, ASPE will directly benefit from ad sales in the
magazine. This additional revenue will help offset thenew and exciting programs being offered
to the membership.

Plumbing Systems and Design Magazine
ASPE is now taking a giant step. In a confluence of opportunities, the Society will now be able
to publish a first-class periodical for its membership and industry professionals. This new
magazine, Plumbing Systems and Design, will become a major and primary benefit of
membership in the Society.

ASPE has developed a professional publication with recognized columnists in each issue. The
inaugural issue will be the September/October 2002 issue, the Convention issue. This special
issue will also be the official Engineered Plumbing Exposition Floor Guide. The magazine will
be published bimonthly for the first two years, then expanded to a monthly publication.

To insure a quality publication, the Society has contracted with Association Management
Center, a specialized association management firm and association magazine publisher, to
publish Plumbing Systems and Design under the aegis of ASPE ownership.
