Toappreciatewhat existsoften requiresnothingmorethanhavingabasicknowledgeandunder-
standing of howsomethingoperates.This is especially true for themembershipof ASPE.Do you
understand how the Society operates?Just what makes our organization “tick”?In a “nutshell,” the
answeris . ..
ASPEhasthreedistinctlevels ofleadership —eachwithits own setofresponsibilities— the
national BoardofDirectors (BoD),theRegional Chairpersons,andtheChapterofficers.Thefirst
level,theelected Board of Directors,communicatestheSociety’s policy–makingdecisionsto the
fiveRegionChairpersons.ItistheRegionChairswhoarethelinksbetweentheBoDandthe
chapterofficers.It istheresponsibilityofeachChapter President tocontinuethecommunications
linkand pass thewordon tothechapterboardof directorsand the membership. Although these are
thedirect routes ofcommunication, any ASPEmember can go directly to any other leadership level
with his/her input. Communication interactionis encouraged,especiallydirect contact with the So-
ciety office.

A SECOND CHANCE

A second 2002 CIPE Examination will be offered at the 2002 ASPE Convention. For more
information contact the ASPE office to receive the 2002–B CIPE Bulletin of Information (773)–693–
2773.

If you are not attending the Convention, thetesting fee for theexamination is $200.00 formembers
of ASPE,and $290.00 for nonmembers.
Forpaid conventionattendees,thetestingfeefortheexaminationis$100.00formembers of
ASPE and $190.00 fornonmembers.

The2002 CIPEExam will beadministeredonWednesday,October30,2002,starting at 2:00PM
(central time). You will beallowedthree hours andthirty minutes to completethe test.
