ASPE's History

1990s

1990: The North Florida Chapter is chartered (January 9).

1990: The Eastern Carolinas Chapter is chartered (November 1).

 

1990: Tom Brown publishes Plumbing Engineer.
1990: The ASPE Convention is held in Cincinnati. The elected board of directors for the 1990–1992 term is as follows:

  • President: Bernard J. McCarty
  • Vice President, Technical: Michael Granata
  • Vice President, Legislative: Kenneth G. Wentink
  • Vice President, Membership: Patrick L. Whitworth
  • Administrative Secretary: Thomas C. Meacham
  • Treasurer: Peter J. Johnson

1991: The Capital Region New York Chapter is chartered (September 24).

1991: The ASPE Technical Symposium is held in Salt Lake City.

1992: The Quebec Chapter is chartered (June 6).

1992: The Central Texas Chapter is chartered (September 8).

1992: The Kentucky Chapter (no longer active) is chartered (September 12).

1992: The board of directors decides  to appoint an affiliate liaison to the board.

 

1992: The ASPE Convention is held in Washington, D.C. The elected board of directors for the 1992–1994 term is as follows:

  • President: Michael Granata
  • Vice President, Technical: Kenneth G. Wentink
  • Vice President, Legislative: Patrick L. Whitworth
  • Vice President, Membership: Thomas C. Meacham
  • Administrative Secretary: Frank G. Teebagy
  • Treasurer: Peter J. Johnson
  • Affiliate Liaison: Peter Warshaw (appointed)

1993: The American River Chapter changes name to the Northern California Chapter.   

1993: The ASPE Technical Symposium is held in Atlanta.

 

1994: The ASPE Convention is held in Kansas City, Missouri. A bylaws change voted on and approved at the Convention creates the position of vice president, education, on the ASPE board of directors and combines the positions of secretary and treasurer. These changes go into effect for the 1996–1998 term. The elected board of directors for the 1994–1996 term is as follows:

  • President: Kenneth G. Wentink
  • Vice President, Technical: Patrick L. Whitworth
  • Vice President, Legislative: Peter J. Johnson
  • Vice President, Membership: Thomas C. Meacham
  • Administrative Secretary: David Chin
  • Treasurer: Gregory P. Gladfelter
  • Affiliate Liaison: Peter Warshaw (appointed)

1995: The Alabama Chapter is chartered (March 2)

1995: The Rochester Chapter is chartered (June 8).

1995: The Eastern Carolinas Chapter changes name to the Raleigh Chapter (August 1).

1995: The ASPE Technical Symposium is held in Cleveland. 182 people registered, an 18 percent increase over the previous Symposium.

1996: Stanley Wolfson is hired as ASPE’s executive director.

1996: A version of the original Society logo is put back into use in lieu of the letter logo.

1996: The board of directors votes to create an ASPE Chapter Membership Growth Award.

 

1996: The ASPE Convention is held in Phoenix.  The elected board of directors for the 1996–1998 term is as follows:

  • President: Kenneth G. Wentink
  • Vice President, Technical: Patrick L. Whitworth
  • Vice President, Legislative: Thomas C. Meacham (1996–1997); J. Joe Scott (1997–1998, appointed to fill vacancy)
  • Vice President, Membership: Gregory P. Gladfelter
  • Vice President, Education: Frank G. Teebagy
  • Secretary/Treasurer: David Chin
  • Affiliate Liaison: Patrick Kelly (appointed)

1997: The Southern Nevada Chapter is chartered (July 25).

1997: The Delaware Valley Chapter changes name to the Philadelphia Chapter (September 27).

1997: The ASPE Technical Symposium is held in Baltimore.

1998: The Ottawa Region Chapter is chartered (April 8).

1998: The Omaha Chapter is chartered (August 29).

1998: The East Tennessee Chapter is chartered (September 15).

1998: The ASPE Convention is held in Indianapolis. The bylaws are amended to allow the Society to move its headquarters out of California. The elected board of directors for the 1998–2000 term is as follows:

  • President: Patrick L. Whitworth
  • Vice President, Technical: David Chin
  • Vice President, Legislative: J. Joe Scott
  • Vice President, Membership: Norman Parks
  • Vice President, Education: Frank G. Teebagy
  • Secretary/Treasurer: Larry N. Oliver
  • Affiliate Liaison: Patrick Kelly (1998–1999, appointed); James J. Galvin (1999–2000, appointed)

1999: The West Coast Florida Chapter is chartered (December 14).

1999: The ASPE Technical Symposium is held in Philadelphia.
