1970s: Growth
1970: The Montreal Chapter is chartered (August 20).
1970: The San Diego Chapter is chartered (August 24).
1970: The Toronto Chapter (no longer active) is chartered (September 15).
1970: The ASPE Convention is held in Chicago. The elected board of directors for the 1970–1972 term is as follows:
- President: Edward Saltzberg
- Vice President, Technical: Otto W. Lehmann
- Vice President, Legislative: George W. Runkle Jr.
- Vice President, Membership: Curtis H. Lee
- Administrative Secretary: Joseph J. Caruso (Rudolph D’Alonzo becomes secretary mid-term)
- Treasurer: Roger A. Clark
1971: The Upstate New York Chapter is chartered (September 14). (It later changes names to the Buffalo-Niagara Chapter.
1972: The Dallas/Ft. Worth Chapter is chartered (June 27).
1972: The ASPE Award of Merit is established to honor individuals for their dedication and inspired service to the advancement of the ideals and goals of the Society.
1972: The ASPE Industry Award is established to recognize companies or individuals for outstanding service to the advancement of plumbing engineering technology.
1972: The ASPE Convention is held in 1972: Atlanta. The elected board of directors for the 1972–1974 term is as follows:
- President: George W. Runkle Jr.
- Vice President, Technical: Robert R. Manfredi
- Vice President, Legislative: Donald F. Dickerson
- Vice President, Membership: Donald L. Sampler Jr.
- Administrative Secretary: William F. Albern
- Treasurer: Alfred Steele
1973: The Miami Chapter is chartered (May 10).
1973: The Boston Chapter is chartered (October 26).
1973: The American Plumbing Engineer changes name to Plumbing Engineer and is named the official magazine of the Society. It is published by Miramir Publishing.
1974: The Cleveland Chapter is chartered (June 12).
1974: The Baltimore Chapter and the New Jersey Chapter are chartered (September 10).
1974: The Central Indiana Chapter and the Central New York Chapter are chartered. (September 24).
1974: The Data Book is converted to a hardbound format.
1974: The ASPE Convention is held in Houston. The elected board of directors for the 1974–1976 term is as follows:

1975: The British Columbia is chartered (November 14).
1975: The Michigan Chapter is chartered (November 28).
1976: The St. Louis Chapter is chartered (January 12).

1976: The ASPE Research Foundation is established, with George W. Runkle as president.

1977: The Hawaii Chapter (no longer active) is chartered (September 21).
1978: The Data Book is split into two volumes: Volume 1, Fundamentals of Plumbing Design and Volume 2, Special Plumbing Systems Design.
1978: The ASPE Convention is held in New Orleans. The elected board of directors for the 1978–1980 term is as follows:

1979: Construction Industry Press purchases Plumbing Engineer.
